About Mr. H. as a TeacherThis is my 34th year of teaching. I graduated from Grand Valley in 1983 with a BS in Education. My first year was in a year-round school in Houston, Texas, teaching first grade. I next taught in Coopersville for two years, again teaching first grade. After a one year break to try out for the 1988 Olympic wrestling team, I came to Hudsonville, and initially wrote a wellness curriculum and taught physical education for 5 years. in 1993, I returned to the regular classroom, teaching 6th grade and have remained there, enjoying meeting and teaching new 6th graders every year. I also coached wrestling, as the varsity head coach spending 20 years with the program. Coaching is another avenue of teaching - the classroom being the practice room and the venues of competition! I currently coach middle school cross country and wrestling, also coaching technique with our high school wrestling team.

Life's Treasures |
Life's treasures are things like coffee with my wife, kids, and friends - what a thrill! I love sitting with people and talking over life's issues - how faith can grow - building people up and helping others to repair...
I love mission trips and taking students to camp; Leading people on a journey of faith, challenge, and growth - seeing through the mist to the GREAT light ahead! At the end of the day, at the culmination of everything we know, the lives that we've touched - the people who have been changed by power and love - that is the lasting legacy worth living for! When I think about middle level kids, I see the legacy that they can learn, and live. I marvel at how open they are and the opportunity to set a great foundation in place to find their gifts and talents, and to launch into this world with purpose - which brings joy! |
